➡ In Anton chekov's one-act play "The Proposal", Ivan vassilevitch Lomov is a very interesting character. He is a large and hearty, But very suspicious landowner. He thinks, he has several illness most of them imaginary. Although he come's to propose marriage, he allows himself to be a side tracked in to an argument over land both the other character argue about pointless things instead of talking about more serious issues. Lomov comes to ask for Natalya's hand in marriage but later when he is alone, he admits that he is not in love with Natalya but he wants to marry her for economic and social stability.
2. How did chubukov react to Lomov first proposal to marriage Natalya ?
➨ In anton chekov's one-act play "The proposal" Lomov has come to ask the hand of chubukov daughter in marriage . So when chubukov actually heated the proposal, he went over excited he cried out, " Say it again I didn't hear it all ", he even sheds a tear of joy and also Embraced and kissed Lomov . Chubukov prayed god might give him both his help and his love. He declared that he already loved him like his own - son. Actually his reactions were not genuine . But later when he is alone, he admits that he is not in love with Natalya but he wants to marry her for economic and social stability he also remarked that "Natalya is an excellent housekeeper, not bad-looking, well educated ------". He wants to get married to lead a 'quiet and regular life'. So thinking about all these aspect Lomov considered Natalya as an acceptable wife.

But when Lomov informs about the proposal , chubukov becomes very happy. However, before unfolding his proposal to Natalya, Lomov involves /entangles in two long arguments with her. So Natalya does not get any proposal from Lomov. But the proposal is successfully completed by the marriage at the end because of chubukov's presence of mind. So the tittle is apt and appropriate.
